Positive/Negative

Got a call on Friday. Someone wanted to schedule a phone interview for Monday morning. I say someone because I have so many applications out there is hard to keep track. Monday morning comes, they are half hour late, but that is OK. He must have liked our conversation, because he wanted to schedule an in person interview the very next day. Chaos begins. I have to start packing everything into the car to drive from Plattsburgh to The Bronx that same day to be ready for an interview at CUMC the following morning. I will stay with my In-laws for a few days.

Initially the interview went well. The Dr explained well what he was expecting from the lab work and asked questions about my previous experience. The the Post doc comes in. I hope all post docs are not like this, but in my experience most are. Has been working there for only 2 months, never worked with a technician before. Wants a person with experience in ALL aspects of the lab, understand all the internal lingo (each lab has abbreviations that in many cases are unique to the lab) and he can just boss around with minimal training. I wish him good luck finding his dream tech. Goes to visit some friends in places and people I have worked before. Around 3PM I left the York avenue area, walk towards Central Park with no direction and ended by the Hudson river area on 54 st. It was a nice head clearing walk.

Go back to my In-laws and decided to stay another day. Is hard to make the drive two days in a row. I also stayed in case I got another call and I am already down here. The call came as I was getting ready to go home. Is Wednesday night and I was getting a few things to bring back home and I get a call about a phone interview I did last week. they want to see me in person on Friday in Park Avenue. Great! Two interviews in one trip! All I need to do is survive Thursday. Luckily I brought my sewing machine with me. Everything so far is positive. What can be so negative? Thursday morning I get another call. They want to move my interview to Monday!

My first reaction is to pack immediately and go home for the weekend. Called my husband and finally decided to stay in NYC for the weekend. Big negative! I guess this is training in case I find a job and have to move here in a more permanent status. About 5:00PM (still Thursday), another call. There is a job opening in The New York Hospital I can do. Is so good to still have good friends in-house. I sent my resume in, so this means I may have another interview next week. Hopefully early in the week.

I have mixed feeling about the whole thing. On one side, with so many interviews I have a nice chance of landing a job, but on the other hand I will have to leave my family until July. I may be able to go back on weekends, but not every weekend. Big sacrifice, but need to be done for the well being of my family.
